Employment
Today there are more people with disabilities in employment than ever before in Ireland, pursing a range of successful careers in a wide variety of jobs. But with unemployment rates among people with disabilities running as high as 80%, there are many, many more who have not been able to access the workplace.
Managers who have never employed someone with a disability before may be unsure of what this might entail for the company. Someone with a disability entering the workplace for the first time may be unsure how to go about getting a job or what equipment they might require to support them to do it. A range of supports and resources are now available to both the employer and employee, including financial and technological, which help address some of the traditional barriers. The result is a more diverse and inclusive workforce, representative of society at large, which creates a positive working environment for employees, and promotes the company as an equal opportunities employer to its customers.
