Relevant Legislation
There is no specific legislation in place in Ireland which
relates directly to assistive technology. However, a number of
recent acts are relevant to a persons access to and use of
assistive technology in the workplace. These are the Safety, Health
and Welfare at Work Act, 1989, Building Regulations,
1997-2002, Employment Equality Acts, 1998-2004, Equal Status
Acts, 2000-2004, and most recently, the Equality Act, 2004. The
Equality Act, 2004 mainly operates by changing the text of existing
Acts including the Employment Equality Act, 1998 and the Equal
Status Act, 2000.
