Kurzweil 1000

Kurzweil 1000 is computer software that converts printed text into speech for anyone with visual impairments. It works with a document scanner. When the document, magazine or book is scanned, Kurzweil 1000 can read the printed text moments later. The user can choose from a variety of natural-sounding voices.

The software can also be used for creating or editing documents, studying, note taking, summarising, and outlining text. Saved files from Kurzweil 1000 can be sent to Braille note takers, embossers and portable devices such as DAISY and MP3 audio players.

Kurzweil 1000 allows access to texts such as online books, magazines and encyclopaedias. A Book Edge scanner can be used with Kurzweil 1000 to scan close into the binding of a book.
