This material is moderately resistant to stretch and is used for serial splinting; especially for hand, wrist and thumb splinting. It can also be used for dynamic outrigger bases and circumferential elbow and knee splints. The material is cut to size and moulded to the users limb to make a fitted splint.
This material can be heated and reheated repeatedly. Heating the material for different amounts of time gives variable working times before the material sets. When the material is heated it becomes transparent, for greater observation when applying. A temporary bond can be achieved by using the wrap and tack technique, where the edges are pinched together. For a permanent bond, remove the coating on the material by scraping it away with a knife, or using spirits. The optional perforations in the material ventilate the splinted area, allowing for normal evaporation. This splinting material is available in four thicknesses: 1.6mm, 2.4mm, 3.2mm and 4.8mm.
