The material is cut to size and moulded to the users limb to make a fitted splint. It is designed for hand splints, including dynamic outrigger bases and large circumferential arm and leg splints.
The material has a moderate resistance to stretching. Heating the 2.4mm material for 30 to 40 seconds at 65°-70° Celsius gives approximately two to three minutes working time before the bond sets. Heating the 3.2mm material for one minute at 65°-70° Celsius gives three to five minutes working time. For a permanent bond, remove the coating on the material by scraping it away with a knife, or using spirits.
Solid or perforated sheets of Polyflex are available in 2.4mm or 3.2mm thickness, in white or beige, and in two different sizes. A lightweight version of the material, Polyflex II Light is also available.
