San-Splint Splinting Material

This splinting material is made from isoprene rubber and has a maximum resistance to stretch. It provides a high level of control and support and is suitable for neurological splinting, shoe and lower limb orthotic devices, and body jackets and back supports.

Heating the 3mm material for one minute at 70°-80° Celsius gives four to five minutes working time before the bond sets. It can be heated in an oven or in hot water. It bonds permanently when the edges are pinched together and provides support to large areas without the need for reinforcement. It is suitable for outrigger, strapping and padding attachments.

This material comes in a solid sheet, or in sheets with one or three percent perforations. Also available is San-Splint Light Splinting Material, which is 2mm thick. This material is designed for paediatric splinting or night-time splints. It is also suitable for hand splints in some cases.
